Westlaw tip: Expand your search by claiming your roots(!)

May 13, 2010

From the Westlaw Reference AttorneysWhat do trees and words have in common? They both have roots!

When searching on Westlaw, an exclamation point (!) functions as a root expander. When you truncate a word and place the exclamation point at the end of the term, Westlaw will return all words with that root. For example: neglig! retrieves negligence, negligent, negligently, etc.
