Do you want to find a statute but you only know the common name of the act or law? WestlawNext® has popular name tables for both federal and state laws that make it easy to find where those acts are codified in the statutes. These tables are available for the United States Code Annotated® (USCA®) and the statutes of all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
You can access the popular name table on the statutes page for each jurisdiction. The link to the table is located in the Tools & Resources column along with other tools such as Find Template and Index.
For example, if you are looking for the Family and Medical Leave Act, click on “F” in the alphabet across the top of the page. Then scroll down to Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993. You will notice that the alternative names and acronym follow in parentheses.
This takes you to the table, which shows you where each section of the Act was codified in the USCA. This page also provides the enacting Public Law number and lists the amending laws.
The popular name table on WestlawNext makes locating statutes an easy part of your research. Using this tool will give you a great starting point and save you a tremendous amount of time.
