WESTLAW NEXT Tip of the Week: Finding Templates for Statutes

Tip of the WeekDo you ever want to find a statute but don’t know the citation format? WestlawNext® has find templates that let you easily fill in the blanks to get the statute you need. These templates are available for the United States Code Annotated®, federal rule sets, all 50 states, territories, and topics.

You can access these templates on the statutes page for each jurisdiction. Here is one way to get there:

  1. From the home page, click on Statutes & Court Rules under the All Content tab
  2. Click on the jurisdiction, federal rule set, or topic the statute is from
  3. Click on the Find Template link under Tools & Resources on the right

To retrieve a statute or rule, simply enter the numeric portion of the citation and click Go. There is no need to enter an s or a section symbol (§).
