Defense counsel’s performance was not “deficient,” for Sixth Amendment purposes, based on his failure to call defendant’s mother as witness at penalty phase of capital murder case, given that mother was in hospital being treated for her “nerves” at time of trial and acknowledged that she was in “zombie-like” state.
